Representing QUT at the CSIRO NGGP Showcase 2026: Research, Collaboration, and Learning Across Disciplines
Today I am heading to Melbourne to participate in the CSIRO Next Generation Graduate Program (NGGP) Showcase 2026.
Over the next two days, postgraduate researchers from universities and research institutions across Australia will come together to share their research journeys, discuss challenges, present emerging ideas, and learn from one another’s experiences.
Tomorrow, I will have the opportunity to present the context and direction of my Master of Philosophy (MPhil) research at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). While the research is still in its framework development stage, events such as this provide a valuable opportunity to test ideas, receive constructive feedback, and engage in conversations that can help strengthen both the research and its potential real-world impact.
One of the aspects I have enjoyed most about undertaking research is the opportunity to engage with people from disciplines very different from my own. Whether the topic is engineering, information systems, artificial intelligence, environmental science, health, mathematics, social sciences, or emerging technologies, researchers are often tackling remarkably similar challenges: understanding complex systems, managing uncertainty, working with incomplete information, and creating knowledge that can contribute to meaningful outcomes.
The NGGP Showcase is particularly valuable because it brings together people with diverse perspectives and experiences. Some are focused on fundamental research, others on applied industry problems, and many operate somewhere in between. These interactions often lead to new ways of thinking about familiar problems and can reveal opportunities that might otherwise be overlooked when working within a single discipline.
For me personally, the experience is also a reminder that research is not only about producing outputs. It is equally about continuous learning, critical thinking, collaboration, and building connections with people who are passionate about advancing knowledge in their respective fields.
I am looking forward to the presentations, discussions, and networking opportunities over the coming days, and I am proud to be representing QUT as part of this year’s showcase.
I look forward to sharing some reflections and lessons learned after the event.
Have you attended a research showcase, conference, or professional event that changed the way you think about your own field? I’d be interested to hear about your experience.
